Speech and Language

Autism Spectrum: A neurological and developmental difference that can affect language and social communication.

Expressive/Receptive Language: An overall challenge in using, producing, and understanding language in words, sentences, and stories.

Executive Functioning: The cognitive functions responsible for helping students to organize, plan, prioritize, manage time, maintain focus, self-assess, and study efficiently.

Fluency: (AKA stuttering or cluttering) A disruption of speech with repetition, pauses, or prolongations of sounds and syllables.

Social Pragmatics: The way in which language is used within social situations.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication: Modalities of communication that are not speech (e.g., picture communication, mid-tech and high-tech devices such as an iPad for communication).

Articulation and Phonological Disorders: Difficulty or combination of difficulties with perception, motor production, or phonological representation of speech sounds and speech segments.

Natural Language Acquisition: An approach to support self-generated language for children who use echolalia (also known as gestalt language processing)

Academic Services

Wilson: Wilson Instruction Levels 1-12

Reading: Tutoring interventions targeting phonological awareness, decoding, fluency, comprehension, and writing.

Math: Teaching methods aligned with school standards and curriculum to help students struggling in math in grades K-5.

Academic Coaching: Support to develop strong homework, study, and organizational skills essential to succeeding in school. Strategies for children with ADHD, ASD, and learning disabilities.

Professional Development and Consultation

Professional development and training topics include but are not limited to: Struggling Readers, Remote Learning for Students with Disabilities, Reading Comprehension and Autism, Developing Early Reading, Writing and Math Skills, Developmentally Appropriate Practice, Progress Monitoring, Differentiated Instruction, AAC For Classroom Communication, Executive Functioning

Groups

Music Communication Groups: A music themed group supporting speech and language skills as well as social connection through music.

Toddler-parent Groups: Child-led and relationship based group with a focus on foundational strategies for early communication (e.g., joint attention, regulation, reciprocal interaction, etc).

Reader’s Theater: An intervention aimed at improving reading fluency, prosody (i.e., tone of voice), and perspective taking through reading aloud with peers.

Social Pragmatics: Group therapy targeting perspective taking, social communication and connection with others, conversation skills, and flexible thinking.

Educational Advocacy and Consulting

We provide support for families navigating the Individualized Education Plan process. We will review your child’s evaluations and/or IEP, provide education around the ins and outs of the IEP, and assist families in understanding, planning, and preparing for IEP meetings.
